Sound of the Year Awards - Logo - White.png

The Sound Of The Year Awards (SOTYA) is an annual celebration of everyday sound in all its forms. The awards are presented by The Museum of Sound in partnership with The Radiophonic Institute.

Since the awards began in 2020, we have received over 2,500 submissions from 75+ countries. Anyone over the age of 16 can enter and  there is also a classroom-based under 11s category.

SOTYA aims to highlight the rapidly growing international community of sound professionals and enthusiasts as well as the value of good sound, listening, and healthy sonic environments that are becoming recognised as vital parts of our lives. Whilst there are many awards for moving image, we believe the time is right to acknowledge and support those working hard to build and share their expertise in moving audio.

Since 2021, SOTYA has partnered with like-minded and innovative organisations for specific categories that draw focus to the work being created in their fields. These partnerships have helped expand the reach of the awards to a wider audience. They include The British Library, The Natural History Museum, Science And Media Museum, Earth Day, Earthsonic, Sound On Sound, Quiet Mark, and the Southbank Centre's National Poetry Library.
